Superintendent David VanderYacht has devoted himself to the Lynden community through Lynden Schools for more than three decades. A student, teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent before being named the superintendent in summer 2022, VanderYacht has spent his life intertwined with Lynden.

“The Lynden School District and the people of the Lynden School District were really important to my development as a youth and career educator. The opportunity I have had over the last 30 years to give back to children, families and staff members of Lynden has been exceptionally rewarding,” he says.

VanderYacht first spent 10 years teaching at Lynden Middle School and coaching four different sports at the middle school and Lynden High School. He served for two years as the assistant principal at LMS, 12 years as principal of Isom Elementary and six years as assistant superintendent of human resources and operations.

VanderYacht knows the value of working together—as a district and a community—with a focus on partnering with parents to serve students. “My goal,” he says, “is that each of our roughly 500 staff can focus on every child, every day so that every student in Lynden Schools is known by name, strength and need.”
