Jake Leland joins Lynden Schools as the district’s new director of safety and security. The district crafted the new position based on a recommendation by a community-led task force reviewing every aspect of the district’s safety and security protocols. Starting Aug. 27 Leland brings that distinct focus to the students at Lynden Schools.
More than looking at policies and procedures, Leland aims to create a culture of care by serving students. “His focus on building strong relationships and providing meaningful support will help ensure that every classroom remains a welcoming place for learning and growth,” says David VanderYacht, superintendent.
While working to serve students, Leland will partner with staff and community stakeholders to implement safety practices responsive to local needs.
Leland joins Lynden with a range of experience in school safety, emergency preparedness, law enforcement and leadership in policing and education environments. He’s worked to develop secure, student-centered learning environments, coordinated effective crisis response and partnered with local agencies, all goals Lynden aims to achieve in the district’s commitment to ensuring every student and staff member feels safe, supported and ready to thrive.
