Lisa Perigo, in her second year serving at Fisher Elementary School, already knows the value of the staff and the goal the entire team has in supporting students. She says she’s fortunate to work alongside them pressing toward a shared goal.
The Role
As the dean of students at Fisher, Perigo’s focus supports students and staff “through collaborative problem-solving to create a school environment where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to be successful.” That means Perigo works with staff to strengthen practices to promote student well-being, positive behavior and meaningful outcomes. Part of that includes partnering with families to build consistency and connection between home and school, all geared toward ensuring students experience success at school.
“My favorite part of my role is interacting with and supporting students,” she says, “specifically getting to know them, celebrating their success and helping them problem-solve through challenges.”
Perigo says the creativity of the Fisher staff and their openness to try new approaches, combined with the partnership of families, has shown her everyone is working together for the best of the students. “I feel fortunate to be part of a school community where students, staff and families can come together around the shared goal of helping every student feel supported and successful.”
Getting to Know Lisa
As a relative “newbie” to Whatcom County—she moved in 2022—Perigo says she appreciates the strong sense of community and connection. “There is something special about the pride people have in this community and the way they show up for and support one another,” she says. “I especially enjoy the many events throughout the year that bring people together to celebrate all of the wonderful things happening in our area.” She says it all combines to help her feel more connected and invested in her new community.
Perigo and her husband also love attending sports events, cheering on the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks and watching college football (although they root for different teams).
