Warmest of greetings to the students, families, staff, and friends of Lynden Schools as we prepare to begin another school year on August 31.
I believe wholeheartedly in the power and importance of public education and remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. Every Student, Every Day is more than a slogan. It is a reminder that each young person who walks through our doors has inherent worth and deserves to be known, challenged, supported, held accountable, and given meaningful opportunities to learn and succeed.
Our nearly 500 employees (who are the absolute best!) are excited to welcome students and serve the families and broader community of Lynden. In addition to more crowded roads, we know the beginning of a school year brings a mixture of excitement, anticipation, and sometimes a little worry or anxiety for students and adults alike. Be tender with one another and willing to extend grace. Keep an eye out for information from our schools, transportation, food services, and other district programs, and stay connected with us when questions or challenges arise.
Parents and guardians have a particularly important role in this work as their child’s first and most important teachers. Our schools have the privilege and responsibility of building upon that foundation through excellent instruction, meaningful opportunities, caring relationships, and the support each student needs to grow.
About two-thirds of our community’s school-aged children attend Lynden Schools. Strong schools contribute to strong communities, and strong schools depend on a community that stays engaged. Lynden has a longstanding history of prioritizing its children, and our schools are strongest when families, staff, and community members see themselves as part of supporting Lynden’s young people. As we begin 2026–2027, I hope every student and family experiences a genuine sense of welcome and knows they have a place in Lynden Schools.
Serving as superintendent continues to be a true blessing. I also mean it when I say I want to connect with the people we serve and the community we are part of. If you have a question or simply want to share something you think I should know, please reach out. Call or text my cell phone at 360-920-3009 or send me an email at vanderyachtd@lynden.wednet.edu. I’m always willing to listen.
Have a great start and please help others do the same!
