Lynden Culinary Arts Captures Cupcake Wars Title

The Lynden Culinary Arts team captured a cupcake title. In an annual Cupcake Wars event hosted by Meridian High School, a team of Lynden students took home the win, as awarded by the judges. This year’s event saw teams from Meridian, Ferndale and Lynden with the “Illusion Cupcakes” theme, requiring the bakers to design cupcakes that represented something other than a standard cupcake. The Lynden team spent hours preparing and refining their final product and during the competition the students were on their own for 1:45 to make, bake, fill, frost and decorate two dozen cupcakes. A panel of judges selected the winners based on the theme, appearance and texture.

Lynden’s campfire design, flavored with a s’mores profile, took home the top prize. “It was really fun to watch all of the teams use their culinary skills and there is already lots of interest in competing again next year,” says Karen Pehl, LHS culinary arts teacher.

The Lynden team: Genesis Castro, Lizbhet Flores, Finley Freeman, Ruby Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.
