Laura Landis was named the Masonic Educator of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year, an annual tradition that comes with a $1,500 award.
Landis began with Lynden Schools in 2015 as a special education teacher at Fisher Elementary. She’s been there for the last nine years, becoming a National Board-certified teacher and regularly serving as a cooperating teacher for student teachers pursuing their special education teaching credentials. She also serves as a mentor to colleagues. Her efforts mean she’s always at the ready to meet the needs of both students and adults.
During a presentation to the Lynden School Board on June 6, David VanderYahct, superintendent, credited Landis with teaching methods that are innovative, engaging and tailored to meet the variable needs presented by her students. Her professionalism extends beyond the classroom, as she committed to training and support of educators across the district. She’s been dubbed the “professional problem solver.”
The board and VanderYacht congratulated Landis on her award.
