Amy Ohligschlager: Connecting Students to Real-Life Scenarios

This post is part of the Lynden Schools Staff Spotlight series

Amy Ohligschlager loves the connected environment throughout Lynden Middle School. And she’s part of the equation, teaching all three of the school’s grades real-life scenarios.

The Role

Every student in sixth, seventh and eighth grade at Lynden Middle School takes a trimester of health each year. Ohligschlager is there to teach them. “I love teaching middle school students, so they are what make me appreciate my position most,” she says. “They are so fun.”

Ohligschlager says the staff at LMS also makes the school a connected place, with support from staff and administration to help the teachers work together to connect with the everyday challenges of relating with students.

“I really enjoy the content of what I teach because I believe it helps the students develop real-life skills,” she says, “that will help them as they leave here and move forward in life.”

Getting to Know Amy

Ohligschlager has been a health teacher at Lynden for seven years (she taught physical education prior to taking the health position at LMS), but she remains connected to the community in so many ways. She’s currently coaching track and field at LMS and has loved attending Lynden sporting events. She once spent time watching her three sons participate and “now I get to watch students or former students compete.”

She is also involved with the local community through North County Christ the King Church where she’s able to feel a great connection to the students and staff she sees there. Ohligschlager also enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors.

“I’ve lived in Lynden all but seven years of my life,” she says, “it is an awesome community, and I am thankful to be a part of it.”
