Scientific Study at Isom

Isom fifth graders recently wrapped up a science unit that included dropping eggs. Students were required to define a simple design problem and then create specified criteria for success, including adding constraints on materials, time and cost. The students worked on how to keep eggs from breaking when dropped from 10 feet—and then 15 feet if the egg survived the first fall.
