Family Community Services Distributed 65 Thanksgiving Baskets to Families

Thanks to generous donations from the Lynden community, Lynden Schools’ Family Community Services was able to distribute 65 Thanksgiving meal baskets to families in need.

The main contributions came from Grace Baptist Church and Petrogas Corporation. Grace Baptist donated 35 meals and collected additional money this year to place food gift cards in some of the meal boxes. Petrogas donated 30 meals, the second year they have partnered with Family Community Services to support students and families.

“Food is a basic need, but during the holidays we love how the community reaches out so that families are able to gather and share a special meal,” says Margaret Vailencour, Family Community Services coordinator. “The families are so appreciative to everyone involved. Often times they can’t believe that others put everything together and were thinking of them.”

Each of the Thanksgiving meal baskets included all of the standard holiday foods and treats.

“There are so many community members who reach out to us on a regular basis to assist with basic or special needs of families,” Vailencour says. “We appreciate everyone’s support so much.”

For those looking to help a family in need, call the Family Community Services office or make a donation to the FCS Donation Fund by writing a check to the Lynden PTA/Family Community Services.

“Sometimes it works out,” Vailencour says, “that a need has just come up and we receive a call from someone donating exactly that item.”
