This post is part of the Lynden Schools Staff Spotlight series
In his sixth year as a MLL specialist paraeducator in Lynden Schools, Ben Segura enjoys supporting a range of students and staff.
The Role
Segura is ready to help multi-language learners and the teachers looking to connect with the students at Lynden Middle School. Paraeducators play a critical role in student learning by working alongside teachers to pre- and re-teach classroom instruction and build strong relationships that help students thrive. A bilingual paraeducator, such as Segura, is especially crucial in helping students develop English language proficiency and access academic content ensuring all students can fully participate and succeed.
He’s available to support teachers and students across all classes, especially with testing. “I like being able to help students understand class work and lessons better,” he says. “I especially enjoy seeing the students grow in their abilities and gain confidence.”
Connecting students and teachers is also about families. “I believe regular outreach and maintaining good relationships with our students’ families,” Segura says, “is key to strengthening our Lynden Middle School community.”
Getting to Know Ben
Outside of the schools, Segura can be seen on a mountain, whether snowboarding, mountain biking or hiking.
