Lynden High’s Amanda Schuyleman and Eli Kok advanced to the final round of the High School EMT competition at the Health Occupations Student Association International Leadership Conference in Dallas this month. Over 150 EMT teams competed using National EMT knowledge and skill standards. The final round featured the top 26 teams. In addition to their own studying, local Whatcom County EMTs invested many hours assisting in scenarios practices to help them prepare, says advisor Duane Korthuis. The Rotary Club and local businesses were generous helping them financially after an unexpected win at state left them scrambling to find a way to Dallas.
