Four Lynden Teachers Recognized by Community Awards

Four Lynden Schools teachers were given much-deserved recognition as part of the third-annual Brown & Brown Excellence in Education program. Isom’s Chifundo Vis earned the top Educator of the Year award for public school educators and a $5,000 prize to go along with it, while three other Lynden teachers were named finalists for the award.

Vis, a fifth-grade teacher at Isom, was presented with the prize in late May during a ceremony. Other Lynden finalists included: Tammy Brandvold, Lynden High School agriculture and career and technical education teacher; Anna Marie Peach, Bernice Vossbeck Elementary second-grade teacher; and Dena Riccobene, Fisher Elementary third-grade teacher.

“We are grateful for exceptional educators of Lynden Schools and appreciate the recognition of Chifundo, Anne Marie, Tammy, and Dena,” says David VanderYacht, Lynden Schools superintendent. “Special congratulations to Chifundo Vis for receiving Brown & Brown’s Excellence in Education Award. She represents the care, creativity and commitment to students of our classroom teachers, and I couldn’t be happier for her.”
