This post is part of the Lynden Schools Staff Spotlight series
Marilyn Weeks has spent the past 28 years working toward one goal as a member of the Lynden Schools staff: making a lasting impact. She’s well on her way.
The Role
Weeks began her career as a paraeducator, later moving into a recess supervisor position to balance work while raising her children. Over the years, Weeks also supported the school office and a decade ago began work full time in the Bernice Vossbeck Elementary office.
In her current role, Weeks is often the first face visitors see when they walk through the door. She’s there to greet people, answer phones and ensure families get connected to the right resources. She also serves as the attendance secretary, helps parents with after-school planning and supports the discipline office. Weeks takes pride in ensuring students get home safely each day and assisting parents navigate the logistics of family life.
During the day, Weeks is providing support to teachers and fellow office staff, ensuring the school runs efficiently and that everyone has the help they need, all while managing the school’s volunteers.
Weeks “treasures the opportunity to meet parents and students, building relationships and offering help where it is needed,” while especially treasuring the conversations that allow her to get to know families on a personal level.
Getting to Know Marilyn
Outside of work, you can find Weeks with her family (especially grandchildren), enjoying her property in Eastern Washington as a place to relax and recharge, finding “happiness in gardening” as she soaks up summer activities or even serving as a caretaker to her son’s dog.
Traveling is a main source of enjoyment, whether exploring new places or spending time with friends and families. Weeks cherishes time with her sisters, from dinners out to casual get-togethers filled with laughter and connection.
Throughout all her activities, Weeks places a focus on making a lasting impact by providing a warmth, dedication and commitment to students, families, teachers, staff and volunteers at Lynden Schools.
