Fourth grade students throughout Lynden Schools have partnered with the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association for a unique hands-on experience that allows students to raise salmon. Through a grant received by the NSEA, an aquarium was installed in each of the elementary schools with a delivery of 250 salmon eggs to each school. Students now can observe the beginning of the salmon lifecycle as the eggs hatch into alevin, then become fry. The students will have the chance to release the fry into Fishtrap Creek in March.
