Message from the Superintendent

Students, Families and Employees:

My hope is that you’re successfully navigating this stretch of extremely cold weather and heavier-than-anticipated snowfall. As learned through previous challenges to our daily lives, we may all experience the same storm, but do so with different available resources and personal circumstances. Thank you to the small, but mighty, dedicated grounds, maintenance, and custodial crews at Lynden Schools, led by Kevin Burke. Our mechanical systems and footprint across Lynden are expansive and the recent sub-freezing temps, along with high snow totals, continue to present significant challenges. Still, we’ve experienced no major damage due to the commitment and continued work of our staff. We are also making progress toward reopening our schools.

In terms of school closures and delays, we understand the value of early communication and strive to do so when possible. At the same time, people only appreciate early announcements if I get them right. Our teams are currently working to clear lots, assess progress and monitor forecasts. I plan to provide an update to families and staff at 6 p.m.
