Jake Leland joins Lynden Schools as the district\u2019s new director of safety and security. The district crafted the new position based on a recommendation by a community-led task force reviewing every aspect of the district\u2019s safety and security protocols. Starting Aug. 27 Leland brings that distinct focus to the students at Lynden Schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than looking at policies and procedures, Leland aims to create a culture of care by serving students. \u201cHis focus on building strong relationships and providing meaningful support will help ensure that every classroom remains a welcoming place for learning and growth,\u201d says David VanderYacht, superintendent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While working to serve students, Leland will partner with staff and community stakeholders to implement safety practices responsive to local needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leland joins Lynden with a range of experience in school safety, emergency preparedness, law enforcement and leadership in policing and education environments.
