School Construction Update – January 22, 2018

Fisher Elementary School

Fisher Elementary School is complete.  The School Board will be presented with a resolution to accept the facility at its first meeting in February.  This will mark the end of construction and the beginning of the warranty period.  The construction contract outlines a one-year warranty period in which the architect and contractor will monitor the building and address any items that may come up during the year.

There are still a few landscaping items to be finished and some hydro seeding to be done in the spring.  Other than that, all the work at Fisher is complete and we can close the book on this project.

I would like to give a tremendous shout out to Zervas Architecture and Colacurcio Brothers Construction.  Working with both has been a wonderful experience and a great team effort.  Both have been committed to designing and building a school that will serve our students and community for many years to come.  We have much to be grateful for and I certainly appreciate all the hard work that has resulted in a very good school.

Lynden Middle School

Progress is marching along at the new middle school.  Crews are focused on all aspects of the building with some areas being completed and others in the middle stages of construction.

A couple of highlights on the project over the past few weeks:

  • 50% of the classrooms have casework, wall finishes, and drop-down ceiling grids installed. Some classes may have carpet laid by mid-February.

  • Wall finishes such as paint, vinyl covered panels, and window trim are giving many areas a finished look.

  • Metal and brick siding is complete except in a few areas.

  • The elevator is being installed.

  • Furniture, fixture, and equipment is being ordered and scheduled for arrival in May.

  • Classroom technology is being ordered and scheduled for installation.

  • Exterior elevations, light pole foundations, and locations for curbs and gutters established and prepped for installation once the weather cooperates.
